Portraiture and Design

Narrative Landscapes.


  • The cost of printing of the final image to be exhibited is included in this workshop.


3 day workshop run by Artist/ Tutor Nickeema Williams. Exploring individual interpretations of identity, connection to country and space. Creating a photographic series reflecting these stories/ narratives.   Participants will be invited to create a head pieces that represents themselves, a memory, their own art practice, where they are from, or responding to the environment. They will then be photographed by the facilitator and model their own creations.   This is a collaborative series of artworks that aim at capturing part of individuals through their portrait but adding a layer of storytelling and expression through wearable art.   Turning artist into their art, and the body into their canvas.

  • Day 1-2: Head piece creation
  • Day 3: Photoshoot and editing

What to bring:Participants are invited to bring items if they wish but it is not a requirement there will be materials and equipment available.Objects:

  • Photographs of artworks, historic or family photos, photos of trips or holidays (Anything that you may want to get inspiration from or use in your portrait)
  • Your own camera.
  • Found objects/ recycled items. (think of light and small items as they will be on you)

Nickeema is a young first nation’s artist who resides in Woorabinda.

She has had numerous exhibitions throughout Australia in the last decade.

Nickeema works across a range of mediums in her artistic practice. These include photography, painting, film and mixed media.

She also works with numerous community groups supporting local artists, as well as in her current position as Indigenous Regional Arts Officer for Central Queensland Regional Arts Services Network.
